Day 11: Bam Bam and the A Hoc Wifi Contemplation and Coordination Committee boost me to 13,058 words

Image
I don't think this excerpt really needs an introduction. “Ah, just who I was looking for,” comes a voice from behind me. Not a voice that I recognize. Who could it be? I turn and see a man walking down the hallway towards me, a mischievous twinkle in his eye. He is about six feet tall and looks to be in his mid-twenties. His light brown, thick, curly hair hits at about shoulder height and he has a perfectly groomed light brown beard. He looks strong, confident and filled with mirth. I like him immediately. “Addison,” he says, holding out a hand for me to shake. “Addison Barger. From IT. But you can call me Bam Bam.” “Hi, Bam Bam,” I say, barely suppressing a laugh. An adult man calling himself Bam Bam? “I know, I know,” he says, shaking his head and smiling. “You’ll get used to it though. It’s an old baseball nickname that stuck. Everyone calls me Bam Bam. Except my mom.” “Got it,” I tell him. “I’m Lena. But you must already know that. Since it was you looking for me.” “Right, yes,...

Day 10: 12,318 words and too much to write!

Image
Another fantastic day of writing behind me. I sat down with the plan to write a hilarious segment about a "semi-mandatory" work potluck, including an AI generated song with all employees names - but then Jackie sent the hilarious article about Jack Bauer - both of them. So I pivoted. I felt like my memo was the funnier of the two things I wrote today, so I'm sharing that instead. You'll have to wait for the full novella for the Jack Bauer hilarity. (Or actually jsut read the article that Jackie sent, because I plagiarized and only lightly edited it for humour).   MEMORANDUM To: Employees of the Bank of Nova Scotia From: Chadwick Penneyworth, Senior Management at the Bank of Nova Scotia Date: July 3, 2025 Subject: “Operation Hot Commie Summer” Hey everybody. Chadwick Penneyworth here. I thought I’d just shoot you a quick voice memo to tell you what we’ve been “cooking up here” in Senior Leadership. Haha, lol, smiley emoji. You’ll notice and appreciate that the tone of ...

Day 9: 11,109 eye wash station jokes

I'm delighted that my novella is just deciding the plot for itself. Every day when I sit down, I have no idea what I am going to write about. I start writing, am inspired by one thing or another, and manage to write out the requisite number of words and the plot moves itself forward - or not, sometimes there is no plot movement, but just a bunch of EsNoWriMo lore and inside jokes. I laughed at a bunch of my own jokes when I was writing today. I hope you get a laugh or two, also. As an aside, I'm so happy to be able to use AI to generate all the madcap images that I come up with in my imagination and bring them into the real world. Thanks AI. “Judging by the odour of this room, I would say that more than a few people need to enjoy this product, post haste!” I say conspiratorially to Jake and Chazzy. “That’s actually just the way that Jackie’s Place smells,” Chazzy tells me. “Jackie knows the importance of scent in creating the ambiance of a space. Much like realtors will bake co...
