Happy Earth Day!
I thought in honour of Earth Day, I would post a list of some things you can do to help protect the environment (in no particular order):
1. Don’t litter.
2. Reduce, reuse, recycle.
3. At the grocery store, buy local produce and locally made foods whenever possible. And become vegetarian.
4. Save water! Take shorter showers; turn the tap off when you’re brushing your teeth.
5. Walk, ride your bike, take the bus (or other forms of public transit).
6. If you must have a car, use it as little as possible. And get a hybrid.
7. Turn off the lights! And replace your incandescent light bulbs with energy-saving fluorescent ones (and try to get the mercury-free kind)
8. Keep your house at 18 degrees Celsius in the winter and 25 degrees Celsius in the summer. Too cold? Wrap yourself in a nice blanket. Too hot? Wear an American flag bikini.
9. Use re-usable bags every time!
10. Buy a travel mug and use it. Almost every place has a discount now for those using travel mugs, so you’ll save the environment and some money!
11. "Where-ing" green t-shirts.
This list definitely isn’t comprehensive, just wanted to make a quick list of simple things you can do every day to reduce your ecological footprint. And feel free to add more ideas in the comments!

Earth Day was celebrated in the Esmonde Moore household by me putting Liam and Nathan in green shirts. I was instructed to do so in a note home from Liam's teacher that read "Where green on Wednesday". I got out my purple marking pen and corrected it and sent it back to the teacher. Question: does that make me an asshole?
ReplyDeleteAnswer: yes.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: On a scale of 1 to 10, how much does it benefit the environment to make your children 'where' green shirts?
I think my kids could actually stop global warming with their green shirts. Perhaps that is overly optimistic. No, actually, I stand by that statement.
ReplyDeleteJill I think you are an asshole. That is all. She had it coming though.
ReplyDeleteJill can you please keep your kids in those green shirts forever? Or will you selfishly put them in their jammies tonight and a completely different outfit tomorrow? The fate of the world is in your hands...
