NaNoWriMo - T minus 40 Days!
I decided to hop on the NaNoWriMo blog wagon, since it seems to be the cool new thing to do. My plan of action is to start reading "No plot? No problem?" as soon as possible, and then, over the course of the month of June, to steal Jill's award for most shameless incorporation of certain four letter words into my book to up the word count, even if that means having an incomprehensible rant as my last 500 words...
I've definitely come up with one scene that needs to be incorporated into my novel in some way, and it is based on a real life event that happened at 3:30 AM on Sunday. Let me paint you a picture: It was my friend Adam's birthday party, and we went out to Molly Bloom's and stayed til last call. During the 3 hours we were there, we built up quite an appetite, so a bunch of us decided to get some shawarma (sp?) at a restaurant I like to call "Pita Pita Pita". My personal favourite is "shawarama fries" covered in garlic sauce, hummus and tzakiki, and I almost never have them. Needless to say, I was really excited about my fries.
When we all got back to Scott, Adam, and Kyle's place with our recently purchased snacks, we sat around the table, eating and talking. All of a sudden, some girl we'll call "Emily" (who none of us had ever met) came into the room and sat down with us. And by "sat down with us", I mean Scott got up saying he was going to the bathroom and would be right back, and she sat down in his spot. She then proceeded to start licking the hummus off the top of the fries container, and stealing our fries and talking about how delicious they were. Yes. I know they are delicious. That is why I bought them for myself. And I would have let you eat some if you asked (although I would not have let you lick the hummus...weird). I solved the problem by leaving the room (storming out of the room, same thing) and taking my fries with me. When I came back, she had left and everyone was still sitting around talking and eating, if not slightly weirded out. I felt it was safe to return.
This is when the best part happened. She walked back into the room, complaining loudly about how hungry she was. She laid her eyes on my friend's wrap (which she was still eating) and as she said "I know I don't know you that well but..." and the end of her sentence was cut off by the huge bite she took. She eventually finished this wrap...without ever asking. This highlights one of the worst people to have at a party: the mooch (and in this case, an extremely socially awkward one with an overdeveloped sense of entitlement). This character and/or scene needs to be in my book.
Thus ends my first (but far from last) blog posting!

Weird. You definitely need to have Emily in a small but pivotal role in your novel.
ReplyDeleteAll that's left is Jill. She seems to be ignoring us, though.
And I agree, Aki for MVP!!!!
ReplyDeleteOr, the pylon they replaced him with. Whichever one.
So, you're writing a horror novel then?
ReplyDeleteI am not ignoring any of you. I only just received notification from SCOTT (!) that these blogs are happening. And "Whammy", if that is your real name, I think that the title of my blog puts to rest your puny aspirations to steal my award.
ReplyDeleteAsshole, it's on!
ReplyDeleteJill, I personally find it offensive that you are so dismissive of Scott as a Wannabe. We all know he's been vying for top spot for years, so of course it makes sense that he was the first to notify you of our blogging adventures. I think you owe SCOTT (!) an apology.
