A Long Overdue Excerpt
Sorry for being so absent on the blogs this year! I hope you will accept this excerpt as an apology. I can't put it in too much context to not ruin any plot twists and turns, but Emma has an important date and has enlisted the help of two very interesting makeup artists.
I smiled at her as I walked quickly up the stairs to my bedroom. Two makeup artists were there waiting for me. They were dressed in exactly the way one might expect a makeup artist to dress: crazily. They were fraternal twins, Emilio and Emilia. Luckily, I had worked with them before, or I might have been very off put by their appearance. Emilio was dressed as Emilio Estevez from The Breakfast Club, in a white beater, jeans, a blue hoodie, topped with a blue leather varsity jacket. Emilia was dressed as Emilio Estevez from The Mighty Ducks. She wore a Mighty Ducks hockey uniform, and from the smell of her, she was wearing full hockey equipment underneath. On her feet, she had the much coveted Air Bombay loafer. While their clothes themselves were mostly inoffensive, it was their hair that made the real statement. Shaved into the back of their heads was the face of Emilio Estevez, looking exactly as he had in the movie that they had chosen. Most alarmingly, they had carefully applied makeup, fake eyelashes included, to the face on the back of their heads. The overall effect was not pleasing.

Wow, for an apology excerpt, this sure was creepy. That being said, it was also wonderful. I can't wait to read your book and actually find out what the hell is going on here. I also can't wait to find out what these people did to Emma's face, hopefully her make-up didn't scare off her date.

ReplyDeleteI can emphatically say that despite having enjoyed this excerpt immensely, it does not make up for your blog absence. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I wouldn't let them do my make-up. Ever.
Enjoy your road trip! See you on Saturday!
*I had to post this twice, because I noticed a grammatical error.
I'm glad Katie explained. I was concerned she had written something offensive the first time around and then had second thoughts.
ReplyDeleteWe've definitely missed you in the blogosphere, but it's nice to have a taste of what is to come. I hope that Emilio and Emilia helped Emma to look her best - perhaps something like Emilio circa Outsiders?
This is hilarious. I love the fact that Emma needed not one, but two, makeup artists for her big date. I really can't wait to find out more about it!
ReplyDeleteAt the moment, I'm a huge fan of fake eyelashes, and I'll have to try applying them to the back of my head.
